STRIKE!

TUESDAY MARCH 27th STRIKE!!!!

MS cast and crew are called until 5:30pm on 3/27 for strike. Strike (breaking down of the set) is mandatory for all MS cast and crew as laid out in the production contract, at the time of audition, and throughout the rehearsal process.  We begin the strike process after lunch and it takes everyone working together to get it done. Please do not pick up your child early or take them to another activity. This is their final commitment to the show. Thank you in advance for understanding and honoring this commitment and the duration of this vitally important part of the show.

ALL CHARACTERS EXCEPT FOR THE CAT, PLEASE APPLY YOUR OWN SKIN TONE FOUNDATION PRIOR TO ARRIVAL.

GIRLS MUST ARRIVE IN PIN CURLS, YOU WILL NOT HAVE TIME TO PIN CURL YOUR HAIR AT CALL TIME. Please wear your pin curls to school on Monday if need be!

     No Jewelry- Please do not wear or send your children with any bracelets, hair ties, rings…etc.  Bird Girls/Mayzie can wear pearl or rhinestone/diamond stud earrings if they choose. Mrs. Mayor may wear pearl earrings if she would like. 

Funky Town J - All students are strongly encouraged to bring/wear deodorant as this will be a long day under the lights.

·    Nails - If you want to do your nails, pick a color that matches your costumes. Otherwise, please leave your nails plain.

·    Hydrate – Everyone should bring a nice sized water bottle so that they can stay hydrated throughout the run.  We will provide a snack for them in the rooms.

MS Cast Notes from Tonight's Tech Rehearsal

Tonight was a good rehearsal! Here are notes from this evening:

• Bird Girls, we can tell you are working hard on your moves. Keep it up! Keep thinking about making each move sharp, in unison, which direction and/or beat you move on, using your face to smile, and keeping strong, loud, well-supported voices all while having fun and smizing! :)
• Bird girls keep your energy up!
• All Faces were dead in the beginning, keep your faces alive, your face matters MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE! Make your eyes be full of life, excitement, wonder, energy- really visualize what it is you are singing about. 
• Emily H stop playing with your hair when you are not dancing as Lil Roo
• Nice Matthew working with the Tv scene and getting the mic properly positioned. 
• Carly Tauber nice and loud-tonight- YAY! now make bigger choices with the body!
• Amalia Great Face in Bird Girl line.
• Rachel B going the wrong way in Amazing Mayzie BG line
• Maya keep working on sustaining your show face, Emily, and Caitlyn when you are bird girls remember this as well. Don't think so hard.  Show pizazz and spark on those gorgeous faces.
• Enter and exit ALWAYS in character!! 
• Don't act on your lines only, everyone actively listen and react to what is going on around you.
• If you have rhyming lines, watch getting sing-songy on lines
• JOJO- still make it more like a frustrated parent!! JOooooooooooJOJOOOOOOOOO! 
• Sam watch upstaging yourself in your scene
• ALL people with solo scenes and lines- please do not bunch up on each other give yourself space and keep cheated out to the audience.
• Connor AWESOME position at end of monkey dance 
• Rachel H keep your breath support on beginning of Notice Me Horton- you are tightening up too much- relax :) 
• Alex let's go over your harmony together with me and then you, rachel and me
• No TV on the skycam news- just microphone
• Lily pop correct leg/knee- I can't remember where this but we will go over tomorrow 
• Rachel H let more loose with body on tantrum and change up your hands some during your song
• Really  nice transformation on your tail growing- Rachel H good character work
• Alex need more elephant on stage, not Alex live in concert :)

• Please wear hair in a low bun at nape of neck and hairspray any fly-aways down.

• Diva hair, curly wild, full but back from face half up and half down

• Caitlyn, please wear hair in a tight low bun at the nape of neck slicked back and hairspray it down.
• Avi, please lightly gel hair to keep it out of your eyes and face.

Wickershams (Baby Fish and Wicks)

• Scruffy, rumpled look 
• Messy, rumpled, like been playing all day outside. Tease it out a bit if needed. 
• For Wick girls, if your hair is shorter, tease out and make messy. Hair full, wild, and curly with a few braids or a side big braid. your hair is not naturally curly or won’t take a curl, please wear down and brush out to make as full as possible. ALL please use hairspray when done fixing hair to set the look. Secure well with bobby pins and spray hair to set it.

• Please wear your  Seussical show shirt and black pants or long black leggings. You must full-length black bottoms. Shoes- please wear brightly colored Converse-style sneakers hi-top or low-top.

WHAT MAKE-UP DO I NEED TO WEAR/BRING?

• ALL MS CAST please wear foundation in your natural shade and BRING mascara in a ziplock bag with your name on it.  ALL cast must wear black mascara. 
• HYGIENE! Please bring deodorant (and boys please bring hair gel) in a ziplock bag. Girls, please bring extra bobby pins. Be respectful that you share costumes and please shower and apply deodorant liberally! Bring a towel or powder if you sweat profusely. 
• ALL of your makeup will be applied here but you MUST bring mascara still to apply yourself. 
• ALL CAST- boys and girls,  please wear cami/tanktops/t-shirts and compression shorts or dance shorts under your costume.
• REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR SHOES!!!!

STAR WALL

We are once again going to be creating a STAR WALL to feature our amazing young thespians. By Sunday, March 18th, please send in a 4x6, 5x7, or 8x10 head shot/school picture/close up photo of your child (only your child in the picture please), with their name and grade printed on BOTH the back of the picture and the envelope you submit it in.   You may drop this off at Sunday practices or leave at the front desk of either campus. Please write on the envelope Seussical Star Wall.

COSTUMES

Please see the link  Seussical Costume and Shoe Needs with details of the items you will need to provide for your thespians and/or crew members. 

Costumes should be turned in starting this Sunday and turned in no later than Sunday, March 18th.  

Costume Shoes are worn from Sunday, March 18^th through the duration of the plays.  Shoes, unlike costumes, spend each evening at home in their cozy shoe beds.

ALL CAST- boys and girls,  please wear cami/tanktops/t-shirts and compression shorts under your costume.

CONCESSIONS

We need everyone’s help this year to have a successful Concessions Stand serving refreshments during intermission for all of our Sunday and Monday performances.  We are asking all families to participate by purchasing store-bought individually packaged treats for our Concessions Stand.  All items will be sold for $1.  The Davis Academy will be providing the drinks.  No Nuts Please! Please drop off your treats at the rehearsals from Sunday, March 18^th – Thursday, March 23^rd.  You are welcome to bring the treats at drop off or pick up on any of these days.

Dear Seussical Parents,
 
I am writing to ask you for your support in recognizing our Director Kendrick Phillips and several other people who have gone over and above to make Seussical, Jr. the huge success that it will be. 
 
Each year Kendrick, our director, works tirelessly, long after rehearsals are over to make sure our school production resembles something you may have seen on Broadway – staging the show, creating the design of the costumes, designing the sets, props, creating all of the choreography, shopping, and more.
 
There are also a number of dedicated staff and volunteers who give countless hours of their time to ensure the high quality of our production. 

For those of you that are new to this experience, you will be amazed to see close to 160 children ages 5-14, come together for some unforgettable performances.
 
Please show your support for Kendrick and the production staff by donating $5 per child in the play (or an amount of your choice) to help purchase a Director's gift and flowers/thank yous for all who make our kids smile and shine when they are on stage. 
 
Please put cash in an envelope and write your child's name and "Seussical Gifts" on the outside.  You can leave these envelopes at the front desk at both schools or at any of the upcoming rehearsals.  We would love to collect all the money by the cast party on March 23^rd.

Seussical T-Shirts

Our middle school thespians received their t-shirts yesterday at rehearsal, and our lower school thespians will get them in the next couple of days.   These shirts can be worn beginning Monday in place of the Davis uniform shirts.  Students are still expected to wear uniform compliant bottoms, socks and shoes.  The shirts can be worn from Monday 19th  through the end of the shows (Tuesday the 27th).
